Educational inequalities in suicide in a middle‐income country: A socioeconomic approach of mental health

摘要: Objective This research aims to describe trends in inequalities suicide mortality by educational level Colombia between 1998 and 2015. Method Standardized rates (SMR) were calculated level, sex, age adult men women over 25 years of age. Poisson regression models used calculate the RR (rate ratio) with those highly educated as a reference, RII (relative index inequality). Results The number reported deaths 2015 was 24,654, which 84.7% men. By age-group, 48.5% suicides among young (25-44). Men had higher than (SMR = 10.44/100,000; SMR 1.72/100,000). age-standardized groups lowest both sexes all age-groups, except for senior (65+). Broadly, while reduced throughout most period, grew. Conclusions We found that inequities associated grew slightly. suggests need work on prevention strategies go beyond individual risk factors. Socioeconomic issues be considered key tool prevent improving peoples' quality life their mental health.
