摘要: Catheter-related sepsis is a common complication associated with the use of central venous catheters (CVC). In an attempt to overcome this problem benzalkonium chloride was incorporated into CVC polymer. The effect presence on microbial colonization then assessed in vitro. MICs and MBCs for range organisms were performed good activity against Gram-positive confirmed. order assess antimicrobial benzalkonium-chloride-impregnated catheter, 2 cm lengths placed nutrient agar plates inoculated various micro-organisms. Zones inhibition five strains Staphylococcus epidermidis two aureus demonstrated. Smaller zones also produced Gram-negative species Candida albicans. zone sizes correlated MICs. Bacterial adherence determined both static dynamic models significantly reduced compared control catheters, containing no agent (P < 0.01). Inhibition 25% human blood phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), up seven days or PBS alone 14 detected. findings indicate that exhibit by incorporation may thus offer effective method prevention catheter related sepsis.
