摘要: OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate metabolic function intestinal microflora in children with celiac disease (CD) order find out if there is a deviant gut flora CD patients compared healthy controls. METHODS: group comprised CD, consecutively diagnosed according current criteria given by European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Thirty-six were studied at presentation, i.e., on normal gluten-containing diet, clinical symptoms signs indicative positive serology markers, small bowel biopsy showing severe enteropathy. Forty-seven when they had been gluten-free diet (GFD) least 3 months. For comparison, 42 controls (HC) studied. functional status evaluated gas-liquid chromatography short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) fecal samples. RESULTS: There significant difference between untreated HC as well treated regarding acetic, i-butyric, i-valeric acid, total SCFAs. propionic n-valeric differed significantly GFD HC. Moreover, strong correlation i-butyric all groups. CONCLUSIONS: This first SCFA pattern samples from CD. results indicate that activity microbial finding different some SCFAs celiacs both presentation during treatment indicates it genuine phenomenon not affected either inflammation, or autoimmune patient. © 2005 Am.
