摘要: Volcanic ash deposition following explosive eruptions can pose significant hazards for water quality, human health, agriculture, and infrastructure functionality. Many studies have examined how fresh may lower the pH of, introduce a range of potentially toxic elements into, exposed surface waters. However, no study has yet determined effects on composition as result mechanical pyroclast disaggregation production new particle surfaces increasingly fine grained particles. Such could from natural posteruptive processes such debris avalanches, lahars, or fluvial/aeolian transport activities cleanup efforts mining pyroclastic deposits. The posteruption time scales vary months in moist tropical temperate environments to years decades arid settings. Here we show, first experimental studies, that milling pyroclasts will into waters, including Al, which be at elevated levels, Na, increases electrical conductivity solutions. leaching solutions also by several log units. dramatic changes scale implications settings, necessitating longer-term risk assessments ecosystem health consideration role deposits element cycling volcanically active regions.
