Conceptualising English as a lingua franca (ELF) as a tertiary classroom language

摘要: This contribution draws on the notion of English as a lingua franca, especially discussed in James (2006) and Smit (2010), to conceptualise English-medium tertiary education settings where functions additional language has history being undertaken other, usually national languages. After briefly sketching recent research undertakings into franca (ELF) well specificities mainland Europe, paper argues for conceptual framework ELF classroom that combines sociolinguistic, sociocultural discursive components. In conclusion, empirical relevance proposed is substantiated by applying it specific case study discourse.
