摘要: Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) imparts a significant health burden in the United States, leaving many patients with chronic deficits. Improvement clinical outcome following TBI has been hindered by lack of treatments that have proven successful during phase III trials. Research remains active into variety non-pharmacologic, small molecule, endocrine and cell based therapies. Of particular focus this review are recent therapeutic avenues undergone investigation mechanisms which therapies may mediate recovery severe TBI. Preclinical data show to provide benefit when administered systemically or transplantation site injury. Increasingly, studies shown these cells able attenuate inflammatory response stimulate production neurotrophic factors. In animal models, beneficial effects on blood–brain barrier permeability, neuroprotection neural repair through enhanced axonal remodeling observed. Clinical for ongoing.
