摘要: Forages are integral components of grassland and pasture agro-ecosystem. They the major source feed nutrition for livestock. As primary producers, they converted by livestock into secondary production in food chain. Forage breeding is a complex process involving plant morpho-physiological aspects (perenniality, mode reproduction, mating systems) aberrant plant-environment correlations affecting performance under various sward conditions. The ultimate aim forage to develop cultivars with high sustainable herbage yield management systems. It also encompasses development beneficial impacts on ecosystem functions, animal growth health. This chapter addresses challenges producers breeders due rapidly diminishing areas impact biodiversity ecosystems their productivity. Approaches conserve genetic diversity utilize resources an efficient way as well procedures practical use selected crops discussed.
