Hair cell regeneration in the bullfrog vestibular otolith organs following aminoglycoside toxicity.

摘要: Adult bullfrog were given single intraotic injections of the aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin sulfate and sacrificed at postinjection times ranging from 0.5 to 9 days. The saccular utricular maculae normal injected animals examined in wholemount cross-section. Intraotic 200 microM concentrations resulted uniform destruction hair bundles and, later times, cell bodies cells. In utriculus, striolar cells selectively damaged while extrastriolar relatively unaffected. Regenerating cells, identified sectioned material by their small short, well-formed bundles, seen as early 24-48 h postinjection. Immature versions mature types both otolith organs recognized presence or absence a bulbed kinocilia relative lengths longest stereocilia. Utricular with longer than stereocilia observed earlier shorter kinocilia. sacculus, gentamicin-treated animals, even days postinjection, significantly smaller those animals. on other hand, reached full maturity within same time period.
