The internet-wide impact of P2P traffic localization on ISP profitability

摘要: We conduct a detailed simulation study to examine how localizing P2P traffic within network boundaries impacts the profitability of an ISP. A distinguishing aspect our work is focus on Internet-wide implications, i.e., adoption localization ISP affects both itself and other ISPs. Our simulations are based models that estimate inter-autonomous system (AS) inter-AS routing, predict extent which reduced, pricing impact changes in profit evaluate by using large-scale crawl BitTorrent containing over 138 million users sharing 2.75 files. results show benefits must not be taken for granted. Some key findings include: 1) residential ISPs can actually lose money when employed, some them will see increased until employ localization; 2) reduction costs due limited small tends grow only logarithmically with client population; 3) better increase through alternate strategies taking advantage business relationships they have
