Influence of the degree of polishing of alloy AA 5083 on its behaviour against localised alkaline corrosion

摘要: Abstract A study has been conducted of the influence surface finish on behaviour against corrosion samples alloy AA 5083 immersed in aerated solutions NaCl at 3.5%. Samples polished from 80 to 1200 grit have tested, utilising as experimental techniques, measurements weight loss, optical and scanning electron microscopy, linear polarisations electrochemical noise measurement (ENM). In conditions studied, principal process that takes place is localised alkaline (LAC). This type occurs a consequence alkalinisation area surrounding Al(Mn,Fe,Cr) cathodic precipitates exist alloy. The results obtained indicate present greater susceptibility processes than grit. It found degree polishing number intermetallic particles exposed. Hence differences observed between sets interpreted an effect function density exposed surface.
