Assimilation efficiency for labelled bacteria and microalgae was measured in the fiddler crabs Uca vocans U. polita deposit-feeding gastropods Clithon oualaniensis Cerithidea cingulata. 2. 2. Crabs exhibited high assimilation ( > 98%) as well strong selection over (three-to-five fold). 3. 3. Bacterial lower (81%: C. oualaniensis; 66%: cingulata) with little evidence of selectivity. 4. 4. In both groups, algal one third to half that bacteria.
