Musculoskeletal pain in Europe: its impact and a comparison of population and medical perceptions of treatment in eight European countries

摘要: Objectives: To describe the impact of musculoskeletal pain (MP); to compare management MP by population and primary care physicians; identify misconceptions about treatment. Methods: 5803 people with 1483 physicians, randomly selected, in eight European countries were interviewed telephone. A structured questionnaire was used ask usual perceived benefits risks Current health status (SF-12) also assessed. Results: From physicians’ perceptions, appears be well managed. All presenting patients are offered some form treatment, 90% or more doctors trying improve patients’ quality life, most aware concerned treatment NSAIDs. a perspective, up 27% do not seek medical help those who do, several wait months/years before seeing doctor. 55% fewer have seen doctor currently receiving prescription for their pain. Communication between is poor; few given information condition; many Conclusions: Management similar across countries, but there discordance physician patient perspectives care.
