摘要: The light (lt) gene of Drosophila melanogaster is located at the base left arm chromosome 2, within or very near centromeric heterochromatin (2Lh). Chromosome rearrangements that move lt+ from its normal proximal position and place in distal euchromatin result mosaic variegated expression gene. cytogenetic genetic properties 17 lt-variegated are described this report. We show five heterochromatic genes adjacent to lt subject inactivation by these euchromatic loci 2L not detectably affected. suggest proximity an important regulatory requirement for least six 2Lh genes. discuss how effects on relate other proximity-dependent phenomena such as transvection.
