Osmotic adjustment and yield maintenance under drought in sunflower

摘要: Abstract The value of osmotic adjustment (OA) as a trait which can contribute effectively to yield maintenance under drought, has not been established for sunflower ( Helianthus annuus L.). We screened set 25 inbred lines reputed differ drought tolerance OA expressed in the 8-leaf stage; crossed extreme (high and low OA); selected four individuals (two high OA, two OA) from F2 population derived this cross. Crops F3 families obtained by self-pollination these were grown rain-out shelter subjected 30-day ending at anthesis. High greater ft [OA full turgor, estimated difference potential between droughted control treatments] than end period (0.23 MPa vs. 0.04 MPa). extracted more water profile during stress (117 mm 63 mm) had shoot biomass harvest index (HI) physiological maturity, grain (ca. 30%). There was no effect on variables irrigated controls. Grain size, rather number, component most affected level OA. Yield conditions attributable variations post-drought increase HI increase. conclude that need develop markers trait.
