摘要: An investigation of the horizontal structure sporadic-E layers has been made using incoherent scatter radar at Arecibo Observatory. Data are presented for two observations, one with beam held in a vertical position, and another scanning azimuth across layer. The first observation was sunset shows passage large region ionization, about 150 km extent, having little small-scale structure. second, midday, considerable variation value maximum electron density cross section an intense dimensions features range size down to resolution (300 m). By considering data statistically it is shown that small patches, 300 m or less exist layer densities great enough account frequency echo recorded on ionosonde located observatory. (auth)
