摘要: The in vivo free energy of looping double-stranded DNA by the lac repressor has a remarkable behavior whose origins are not fully understood. In addition to intrinsic periodicity double helix, an oscillatory component about half helical period and oscillates asymmetrically with amplitude significantly smaller than predicted current theories. Here, we show that is accurately accounted for simultaneous presence two distinct conformations looped DNA. Our analysis reveals these have different optimal energies phases they behave distinctly key architectural proteins.
