This article focuses on the effects of perceived overprotection, a potentially problematic aspect receiving support, ability to adjust chronic impairment, specifically, age-related vision loss. Perceived overprotection is an especially critical issue in this population chronically ill older adults because safety issues associated with impairment and perceptions part adult that support providers are overprotective may lead excess disability. Methods. Participants were 584 men women who applied for services at rehabilitation agency. Path analysis was used examine two positive indicators adjustment: vision-specific adaptation environmental mastery. Moreover, antecedents examined. Results. Higher levels less optimal adjustment loss, lower scores measures functional disability instrumental received higher overprotection. Discussion.
