摘要: Increasing concentrate and silage production costs in recent years have resulted a desire amongst dairy farmers temperate regions to maximise the quantity of grazed grass diet lactating cow. Grazed is cheapest feed available for spring calving systems Ireland. When compared grass, first-cut silage, second-cut concentrates are more expensive by factors approximately 2.5, 2.8 4.0, respectively (O’Donovan & Kennedy, 2007). Autumn two key times year during which opportunities exist extend grazing season. Early turnout (immediately post calving) now normal practice on many farms Ireland clear benefits been observed (Dillon et al., 2002; Kennedy 2005).
