摘要: Currently, there is no tool for typing Rickettsia prowazekii, the causative agent of epidemic typhus, currently considered a potential bioterrorism agent, at strain level. To test if multispacer (MST) method could differentiate strains R. we amplified and sequenced 25 most variable intergenic spacers between prowazekii conorii genomes in five 10 body louse amplicons from various geographic origins. Two spacers, i.e., rpmE/tRNAfMet serS/virB4, were among tested isolates allowed identification three two genotypes, respectively. When genotypes obtained combined, identified four different genotypes. MST demonstrated that several circulated human lice during an outbreak typhus Burundi. This may help to discriminate natural intentional outbreaks. Our study supports usefulness as versatile rickettsial genotyping.
