摘要: Purpose To determine the spectrum of organisms causing acute bacterial conjunctivitis in hospitalized children at a tertiary care referral center. Design Retrospective chart review. Methods Charts with positive conjunctival cultures were reviewed, and patients clinical description studied. Results One hundred seven isolates from 59 included study. The most common cultured coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (59.3% patients), viridans Streptococcus (47.5%), aureus (20.3%). type differed based on age, S. Haemophilus influenzae being more nonneonates. Gram-negative bacilli methicillin-resistant species longer than two days. Conclusions distribution our differs that previous reports outpatient setting. Conjunctival swabbing for culture sensitivities before instituting empiric broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy may be useful.
