Engineering Geological and Petrographic Characterization of Migmatites Belonging to the Calabria-Peloritani Orogen (Southern Italy)

摘要: The laboratory characterization of migmatite rocks, affected by tunneling works in southern Calabria (Italy), has been carried out with the purpose investigating relationship between some potentially interdependent petrographic and petrophysical features mechanical behavior excavated rocks. Mineralogical investigation allowed estimating modal composition rock grain size constituting minerals, as well examining intergranular contacts associated microfractures. velocity seismic waves within specimens measured calculated, along elastic properties rock. Specimens were also characterized from physical–mechanical point view their mode failure was considered. Results show that migmatites varies sample population, although belong to same sampling area. It is controlled both porosity Thus, primary minerals grouped respect properties; abundance/deficiency specimen controls its strength. This reflected modes different strength values. a new consideration this type, largely cropping several contexts worldwide. should be taken into account before starting engineering works, order avoid errors resulting considering homogeneous material points view.
