摘要: Using a gravity model of 1988-90 merchandise trade flows among Canadian provinces and between U.S. states, this paper, building on earlier work by McCallum, shows that Quebec trades twenty times more with other than it does states similar size distance. Comparison survey evidence these internal linkages are far stronger previously was thought. The possible implications for separation, international economics, considerable. If broadly confirmed, the results imply fabric national economies is tighter global trading system, even countries operating without substantial barriers.
