摘要: IN F EBRUARY 2001 the validity of Rorschach inkblot test became a matter public concern—once again. During phone-in debate on National Public Radio research psychologist who had recently coauthored lengthy critical review stated that “this has been brewing for quite some time; criticism really began in nineteen fifties and sixties, never died down.” 1 The president International Society replied “the is wonderful old test; it’s around eighty years or so now, used by generations psychologists, all world, have found it pretty useful.” 2 While psychologists are clearly ready to marshal history their own ends, historians science medicine rarely given sustained attention. Several recent otherwise excellent histories American mental health sciences pay scant if any attention test. 3 But sexuality I give warmest thanks Victoria Brescoll, Lisa Moore, Suzanne Oullette, Susan Rivers, particularly Naomi Rogers Joe Rollins, read earlier, more confused drafts this manuscript helped me develop analysis presented here. Thanks also Center Study Sexual Minorities Military, which provided seed money research. Any errors omissions remain my responsibility.
