摘要: Abstract The lignite mine of Kyparissia is situated in the northern part Middle Pleistocene fluvio-lacustrine basin Megalopolis (central Peloponnesus, Greece). During years 2004–2008 numerous vertebrate fossils have cropped out mining sections and collected or excavated during short-term field expeditions. finds derive mainly from organic-rich sediments (mostly lignites) two fossiliferous horizons, which are stratigraphically closely situated. They generally widely dispersed along western margin palaeolake. Denser concentrations were found four sites, dubbed KYP1–KYP4. recovered fauna diverse, dominated by hippopotamuses, deer elephants. present study describes samples referred to castorids, carnivores, proboscideans, perissodactyls ruminants. following taxa recognised: Castor fiber, Canis sp., Hyaenidae indet., Felis Panthera Palaeoloxodon antiquus, Stephanorhinus Equus Praemegaceros verticornis, Cervus elaphus, Dama ‘Cervus’ peloponnesiacus, Cervidae indet. This Galerian type, suggesting an early age for locality. ecological character that a temperate, predominantly woodland/forest environment, with continuous presence large freshwater body.
