摘要: Abstract In landscapes of the eastern U.S.A., deforestation and reforestation are continuing processes. To better understand these processes, we documented change in density size forest islands within individual landscape types central New York. Thirty-one-30-km2 sample were subdivided into 1-ha cells, cells classified according to five uses — forest, other natural vegetation, agriculture, urban, water. Sample periods 1938, 1959, 1978. Using a cluster analysis, grouped seven - sub-urban, agricultural-urban, transitional-urban, transitional-agriculture, forest. The intensity use determined frequency fragmentation, elimination, consolidation emergence islands. suburban type had highest rates emergence. contrast, lowest rate for thos processes but consolidation. By conducting such spatial temporal analyses, regional managers can gain insight how attributes might through time under different management regimes.
