摘要: Rationale: Infection with Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) bacteria in cystic fibrosis (CF) is associated an unpredictable rate of pulmonary decline. Some BCC, but not others, elaborate copious mucoid exopolysaccharide, endowing them a gross phenotype, the clinical significance which has been described.Objectives: To determine whether there was correlation between bacterial as assessed semiquantitative manner from plate culture, and severity disease by decline lung function.Methods: We performed retrospective review 100 patients CF attending Vancouver clinics 1981 2007 analyzed function (% predicted FEV1).Measurements Main Results: Patients infected exclusively nonmucoid BCC had more rapid (annual FEV1 change, −8.51 ± 2.41%) than those (−3.01 1.09%; P < 0.05).
