摘要: Abstract 1. In a study of the metabolism series free pentoses by pig red cells, only ribose and deoxyribose broke down to form lactate were able maintain ATP. 2. The rates consumption 0.59 1.02 μM/ml cells · h at substrate concentration 5 mM. ratio produced pentose consumed was 1.23 for 0.93 deoxyribose. 3. Ribose is metabolized optimally 3 mM, as shown rate formation, well ATP maintenance. At higher concentrations this sugar increasingly inhibits its own metabolism. 4. Using arbitrary criterion percent initial remaining in following 8 incubation 38°, it that maintenance linearly related production. A metabolic least 1.0 μM lactate/ml necessary insure levels h. 5. When permeability cell membrane hydrophillic solutes increased exposure polyene antibiotic, amphotericin B, increasing amount glucose medium results an increase accumulation. Under same conditions, drug severely all sugar. 6. presence rapidly depleted. Glucose can improve. under these circumstances, but cannot. 7. Although ouabain promotes level exposed they do not recover their ability utilize ribose.
