摘要: Soil nitrogen (N) supplementation via fertilizers may increase crop yields substantially. However, by increasing tissue N content, added can make plants more attractive to herbivores, effectively reducing their resistance herbivores (ability avoid herbivore damage). In turn, greater pest infestation cause severe reductions in fruit production than a moderate scarcity. this study, we tested whether lower results whiteflies and four tomato varieties. We assessed the effects of availability on tolerance (degree which fitness is affected damage) for long-hypothesized trade-off between tolerance. Plants grown at half an agronomically recommended amount had without significant drop production. Tomato varieties differed whiteflies, showed clear these modes defense. Root:shoot ratios were N, but no relation estimated that economic benefit decreasing addition almost fully compensates losses due Additionally, fertilization rates would contribute reduce environmental costs large-scale use agrochemicals.
