摘要: Background Garcinia buchananii bark extract is an anti-motility diarrhea remedy. We investigated whether G. has components that reduce gastrointestinal peristaltic activity via 5-HT3 and 5-HT4 receptors. Methods Aqueous was separated into fractions using preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC), major chemical were identified standard tests. The effects of the its (PTLC1-5) studied through pellet propulsion assays isolated guinea-pig distal colons. Key Results Anti-motility (PTLC1 & PTLC5) pro-motility (PTLC2) from extract. Flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, tannins, phenols in PTLC1&5. potency applied mucosal surface reduced by 5-HT, receptor agonist RS-56812, agonists cisapride CJ-033466, antagonist granisetron, GR-113808. aqueous PTLC1&5 when serosally reversed cisapride, CJ-033466. antagonists, granisetron ondansetron, to extent completely GR-113808 inhibited actions during initial 10 min, but enhanced extracts’ after 15 min. augmented activities PTLC1 PTLC5 30%. Conclusions Inferences These results indicate are potentially mediated compounds affect receptors. Identification characterization bioactive within could lead discovery new non-opiate anti-diarrhea formulations.
