摘要: Shade-grown coffee has been marketed as a less intensive management practice that may help improve biodiversity conservation (Perfecto et al. 1996). Studies have shown higher species richness in shade-grown than sun, however, effects on bird of concern are not clear. This study uses two international lists produced by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and Convention International Trade Endangered Species (CITES) to evaluate potential benefits for Neotropical birds. Sixty-six birds observed grown with shade component were found either IUCN or CITES lists. An alternative approach be use range-restricted endemic indicators success (ICBP 1992). Countries high numbers these endemics among highest-ranked producers coffee. Biodiversityfriendly agriculture is only its infancy, an important test case. Improved assessment monitoring at risk, this case, can provide guide future research while improving consumer confidence complicated effort.
