摘要: Organisms minimize genetic damage through complex pathways of DNA repair. Yet a gene family--the AID/APOBECs--has evolved in vertebrates with the sole purpose producing targeted DNA/RNA molecules cytosine deamination. They likely originated from deaminases involved A>I editing tRNAs. AID, archetypal AID/APOBEC, is trigger somatic diversification processes antibody genes. Its homologs may have been associated immune system even before evolution The APOBEC3s, arising duplication are restriction exogenous/endogenous threats such as retroviruses and mobile elements. Another family member, APOBEC1, has (re)acquired ability to target RNA while maintaining its act on DNA. AID/APOBECs shaped vertebrate genomes, but their mutate nucleic acids double-edged sword: AID key player lymphoproliferative diseases by triggering mutations chromosomal translocations B cells, there increasing evidence suggesting that other could be cancer development well.
