摘要: Abstract Movement scientists have extensively described aging effects on speeded unilateral and uniarticular movements; in contrast, little is known about how affects the coordination of multi-degree freedom actions. In this chapter we review studies motor (defined terms spatio-temporal patterning among multiple elements systems) older adults. addition, present our application principles research strategy ‘dynamic pattern theory’ (Kelso & Schoner, 1988) to study coordination. Findings mover’s ability coordinate intra- inter-limb movements are equivocal. Older subjects exhibit (a) loose coupling muscle synergies during postural responses (b) temporal asynchrony discrete bimanual reaching. However, locomotor (based relative phasing between legs) appears be well-maintained with age. We observed similar relationships 23-78 year olds cyclical in-phase (IP) anti-phase (AP) movements. a phase shift experiment, where movement frequency was systematically increased, exhibited abrupt transitions from AP IP cycling at significantly lower frequencies than young counterparts. findings which suggest that experience critical fluctuation shifts due fundamental deficiencies also evidence for deficiency speed execute voluntary changes An explanation age-related incoordination may strengthening intrinsic dynamics. discuss relation conceptualizations as thermodynamic process whereby constraints altered ways reduce behavioral stability adapt environmental challenges (Yates, 1988).
