Relativistic and charge-displacement self-channeling of intense ultrashort laser pulses in plasmas

摘要: A simple derivation in the Coulomb gauge of nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation describing propagation powerful ultrashort circularly polarized laser pulses underdense cold inhomogeneous plasmas is presented. Numerical solutions are given for two-dimensional axisymmetric case both initially homogeneous and static preformed plasma columns. These account (i) diffraction, (ii) refraction arising from variations refractive index due to spatial profile electron density distribution, (iii) relativistic electronic mass shift, (iv) charge displacement resulting transverse ponderomotive force. The most important modes corresponding (1) purely focusing (2) combined action charge-displacement mechanisms described. latter leads formation stable confined having paraxially localized regions high intensity situated cavitated channels density. It further demonstrated that dynamical tend asymptotically lowest eigenmodes governing equation. Finally, calculations illustrate dynamics show mechanism promotes initial concentration radiative energy subsequent stabilizes this confinement produces waveguidelike channels.
