摘要: Abstract The dynamical state of the stratosphere influenced by radiative heating, with no internal sources or sinks angular momentum, is examined. It shown that there exists a nonlinear Hadley regime driven antisymmetric (or more generally, asymmetric) thermal equilibria typical middle atmosphere at solstices. This consists single mean meridional cell, equatorial easterlies and strong winter westerlies. Outside circulation region flow in equilibrium. effect one-sided friction, acting as drag on midlatitude westerlies only, to expand cell into hemisphere increase magnitude cross-equatorial flow. result possible even steady when advection momentum tropics made small reducing gradient this instead advecting velocity.
