摘要: In this chapter, we discuss the role of calcium and vitamin D as therapeutic agents to sustain pediatric bone health. Vitamin acts primarily through effects on its metabolite, calcitriol, ensure availability calcium, plays a key in homeostasis. Deficiency these nutrients is harmful skeleton, resulting secondary hyperparathyroidism and, severe cases, rickets or osteomalacia. Pediatric studies evaluating optimal dose supplementation, well level serum 25-hydroxyvitamin [25(OH)D] for improving health, are limited. There also limited data what represents ideal treatment dose. This chapter will review sources metabolism D, mechanism their effect bone, significant that have shaped our understanding topic, current recommendations guiding use drugs.
