摘要: This chapter presents examples of U.S. local climate change planning in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The processes initiated storm surge sea level rise mitigation, adaptation resilience plans the context national environmental conflict regarding change. Here, we highlight constructive role knowledge experience can have deliberative policy making adaptive governance processes. These case studies utilized multiple methods data collection including participant observation, semi-structured interviews, content analysis. elements that inspired communities to pursue were consistent across studies. projects framed using values did not directly challenge world views participants. All had recent with extreme weather. Each benefitted from “climate champions”. Finally, each access technical assistance providers who engaged collaborative learning. Local participatory use tools like COAST NOAA Roadmap connect social, political, economic realities. They provide a container within which are empowered difficult conversations about needed responses surge. Novel approach is integration visual 3D graphics benefit-cost analysis, entirely stakeholder driven model parameters, focus on stakeholders’ identified as resources inspire action.
