摘要: While legislation for the creation of protected areas in Peru has existed since 1960s, relating to privately and/or communally (PCPAs) dates only early 2000s, from which point number PCPAs grown rapidly. We examine growth Peru, laws key their creation, and actors who have shaped them, highlighting where national-level data obscures local dynamics that driven or sustained growth. Combined with ethnographic research region San Martin, we show while spread through processes conservation contagion, increasing legal economic requirements, lack support, negative interactions state agents are discouraging conservationists. At same time, promotion as an opportunity is encouraging foreign interest developing market-based projects, risking exclusion populations ongoing sustainability Peru.
