摘要: The paper deals with the compression of multi-spectral satellite image data (high resolution consisting radiances and top-of-the-atmosphere TOA fluxes) investigated within framework EUMETSAT project SAF (Satellite Application Facility) on Climate Monitoring. Full multifunctionality support (quality scalability, region-of-interest access) is asked for calibration characteristics (luminance, radiance) must be preserved certain limits lossy compression, together an excellent quality. We analyze state-of-the-art coding techniques respect to these requirements. Our objective answer two questions, namely capability existing comply our requirements they offer regarding (in terms quality scalability region interest access). propose basic modifications so as meet conclude from experimental assessment analyzed that none top algorithms available date fully satisfy imposed rate-distortion constraints a path future research in this field.
