摘要: Acute anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) is a disabling disease which impairs visual function. Standard treatment unable to affect the outcome and damage persists. We describe case of 64-year-old patient affected by AION, whose only known risk factor was hypercholesterolemia. After first onset involvement right eye (RE), presented four weeks later with an analogous episode affecting left (LE). Since standard treatment, started at RE, had not yielded any beneficial effect, underwent three sessions LDL apheresis. The scotomatous portion field reduced even after session, there further improvement third, six months condition remained stable. Corrected vision improved from 2/10 6/10 third session. cholesterol fibrinogen decresade session 239 mg/dL 31 289 92 mg/dL, respectively. In conclusion, thanks its effect antagonizing hemorheologic disorders ocular microcirculation, apheresis seems be efficacious especially in patients suffering
