摘要: The spin-dependent absorption of circularly polarized x-rays is studied at theL-edges ferromagnetic Gd and Tb metal. At theL1-edge a part the coefficient 10−3–10−2 observed. Strong resonance known as “white line” occurs theL2- andL3-absorption onset. Correlated with it one finds large effects amplitudes few percent. spectra reflect profiles spin densities states populated in process. Thep-states show correlated first two flat bands above Fermi level. density thed-like concentrated energy range white line. In splitting ∼(0.5–0.6) eV unoccupied 5d up down indicated for both spin-orbit partners. dependence on configuration experimental results are compared band structure calculations ground-state. theoretical agree well thep-states but not thed-states. discrepancy concerning thed-states may be attributed to core-hole polarization
