摘要: Objective: The authors examined whether deaths of lovers and close friends from AIDS increased the frequency ofdepressive symptoms depressive disorder in a group homosexual men. Method: Two hundred seven volunteer male subjects were interviewed New York City 1 988 989. Depressive measured with Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, administered by clinician, two self-report symptom checklists. Subjects evaluated major depression Structured Clinical Interview DSM-III-R. Each subject also reported number who had died ofAIDS 1) since beginning ofthe epidemic 981 2) 6 months preceding interview. Results: Neither overall level symptoms, presence ofspecific clusters, nor ofa diagnosed was related to either time frame. In contrast, bereavement reactions specific loss, namely, preoccupation searching deceased, more common greater numbers losses. findings are not readily explained measurement artifact, overrepresentation asymptomatic among study volunteers, habituation effects, numbness, or shallowness ofattachments subjects. Conclusions: Changes normative expectations regarding mobilization against within gay community may account f lack ofassociation between oflosses resulting disorder.
