摘要: Volatile organic compounds emitted from plants have an important role in communication between and other organisms (e.g. plant–pollinator, plant–herbivore plant–carnivore communication). Recent studies revealed a novel mechanism of volatile-mediated plant–plant communication. Here, take up volatiles through the stomata by adsorption on leaf surface. The are then processed within tissues. Reduction esterification increase their volatility, converted again into air. Volatiles taken plant also undergo glycosylation glutathionylation, resulting conversion to non-volatile that ecological functions. For example, one glycosylated compounds, (Z)-3-hexenyl vicianoside, functions defences against insect herbivory. Conversion forms would enable uninjured be more defended herbivores moving neighbouring herbivore-infested plants. Uptake volatile is discussed this chapter.
