摘要: This paper aims to explain the size-effect in Primary Deformation Zone (PDZ) machining using strain gradient plasticity theory. Considering a parallel-sided shear zone configuration, models are formulated for evaluation of gradient, density geometrically necessary dislocations, strength and specific energy. The analysis deformation PDZ shows that length plane represents fundamental material scale governing size-effect. It also provides an estimate lower bound on observed general trends predicted by model shown agree well with experimental values obtained from literature.
