摘要: Thompson (1988) drew attention to the importance of studying correlations between host-plant preferences ovipositing female insect herbivores and performance their offspring. The presence or absence such can reveal important features insect-plant relationships evolution relationships. A strong positive correlation; i.e. a system where females prefer plants on which offspring perform best, be seen as evidence that ‘internal’ plant characteristics are in shaping preference hierarchy females. In context this communication, internal those whose effects immature measured laboratory, chemistry morphology affecting larval growth.
