摘要: Sexually dimorphic abdominal pigmentation and segment morphology evolved recently in the melanogaster species group of fruitfly Drosophila . Here we show that these traits are controlled by bric-a-brac (bab) gene, which integrates regulatory inputs from homeotic sex-determination pathways. bab expression is modulated segment- sex-specifically sexually species, but uniform monomorphic species. We suggest has an ancestral function, changes at locus played a key role evolution sexual dimorphism. Pigmentation patterns specified affect mating preferences, suggesting selection contributed to regulation.
