摘要: The von Economo neurons (VEN) are characterized by a large soma, spindle-like with little dendritic arborization at both, the basal and apical poles. In humans, VENs have been described in entorhinal cortex, hippocampal formation, anterior cingulate rostral portion of insula dorsomedial Brodmann’s area 9 (BA9). These cortical regions associated cognitive functions such as social interactions, intuition emotional processing. Previous studies that searched for presence these cells lateral frontal poles yielded negative results. other areas on medial surface human prefrontal cortex which share both common functional network similar laminar organization, led us to examine its pole. present study, we used tissue samples from five postmortem subjects taken polar BA10, hemispheres. We found although they very scarce dispersed. also observed crests walls gyrus quantitatively assess: (A) interhemispheric asymmetries, (B) VENs/pyramidal ratio, (C) soma (D) difference between pyramidal fusiform cells. least seven times more abundant right hemisphere 2.5 crest than gyrus. size frontopolar is larger layer VI, their crests. Our finding might be contribution understanding role networks all linked. However, particularities pole, quantity, may lead interpret findings light positions van Essen’s theory tension-based brain morphogenesis.
