摘要: An optical fiber communication system according to the invention comprises, in addition conventional single mode (SM) fiber, dispersion compensating (DC) fiber. The DC is selected such that its chromatic (DDC (λ)) and first derivative of with respect wavelength (D'DC at a λ=λop have opposite sign from those SM Advantageously, LDC ·DDC (λ)+L·D(λ) approximately zero λ=λop, D'DC (λ) equal --(L/LDC)·D'(λ) where L are appropriate lengths respectively. Typically, much greater than LDC, λop typically about 1.5 μm, e.g., 1.56 μm. Preferred embodiments low over substantial region (e.g., less ps/nm·km least 50 nm) includes λo, facilitating division multiplexing.
