摘要: Unconventional oil and gas development (UOGD) expanded rapidly in the United States between 2004-2019 with resultant industrial change to landscapes new environmental exposures. By 2019, West Texas' Permian Basin accounted for 35% of domestic production. We conducted an online survey 566 Texans 2019 examine implications UOGD using three measures from Environmental Distress Scale (EDS): perceived threat issues, felt impact change, loss solace when valued environments are transformed ("solastalgia"). found increased levels distress among respondents living counties who reported a 2.75% increase issues (95% CI = -1.14, 6.65) 4.21% solastalgia 0.03, 8.40). In our subgroup analysis women, we higher EDS subscale scores (4.08%, 95% CI= -0.12, 8.37) (7.09%, 2.44, 11.88). restricted counties, exposure at least one earthquake magnitude ≥ 3 was associated increases (4.69%, 0.15, 9.23), that county-level injection wells (4.38%, -1.77, 10.54) (4.06%, 3.02, 11.14). Our results indicate response UOGD-related degradation highlight importance considering susceptible sub-groups.
