摘要: Many classrooms in higher education are becoming increasingly diverse. Diversity is an asset when student interactions promoted and facilitated by instructors. The challenge is, many times students grouped together for a collaborative project without attention to or skilled support the learning development that can occur through intercultural process itself. Instructors often assume this happens automatically organically does not need be acted upon explicitly. However, collaboration skills do come naturally; simply putting groups enough. When skillfully it benefits all students, especially those from marginalized historically underserved groups. Here, we enumerate barriers instructors face supporting groups, describe/share model, explore implementation of model general chemistry lab, which relies heavily on group work. We found these activities feasible large STEM class, participated value them, they enhanced students’ content cross-cutting competencies sought employers. hope after reading paper, will recognize responsibility opportunity have interactions, new inspiration pathway so.
