摘要: Objective: Previous studies have established an association between adiponectin and type 2 diabetes. It is unclear whether will be useful among Samoan Islanders, characterized by markedly elevated levels of obesity, in differentiating those at risk developing diabetes. Methods: Cross-sectional, genetic epidemiology study obesity American Samoa 2002–2003 (n = 1,599). Logistic regression provided adjusted odds ratios 95% confidence intervals for the adiponectin, diabetes, prediabetes (impaired fasting glucose). Results: There a significant decreasing trend diabetes across increasing quintiles with OR 2.8 (95% CI: 1.6, 5.0) 2.9 1.5, 5.7), respectively, lowest relative to highest quintile (P-for-trend 0.004 0.001). Conclusions: Adiponectin important correlate, independent other factors, pathogenesis islanders may help distinguish higher this disease. Am. J. Hum. Biol. 2009. © 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
